Beervent – December 20

Flying Monkey Craft BrewerySaint Beatnick Chocolate Stout – 7.7% ABV

A very dark reddish chocolate stout.  Very chocolaty nose, akin to good milk chocolate.  Flavour is well rounded with chocolate dominating your palate.  Tastes like good dark chocolate, somewhere in the 60% cocoa range.  Pretty delicious. 7/10

Beervent – December 19

Back Forty Beer Company – Trade Day – 6.2%

A Cuban Black Coffee Stout, it’s very dark and has a rich black coffee nose.  First sip is great.  Coffee flavours dominate, with hints of caramel, molasses and brown sugar.  It tastes like expertly crafted coffee, brewed with freshly roasted beans.  I feel like I should be waking up to drink this. 7/10

December 16

Ok, be forewarned.  Remember how I mentioned my case was dropped on its head?  Well, catastrophic failure has occurred and now everything is just sitting on the bottom.  So, I am now reaching in and grabbing at random.

December 16

The Duck Rabbit Craft BreweryBaltic Porter – 9% ABV

This is a spectacularly coloured dark beer.  Very red, akin to a cherry coke.  Sweet fruity nose with cherry overtones.  A glossy smooth sweet aftertaste begins early and mellows out well.  Hints of dark bitter chocolate.  Dark beer lovers will rave for this beer. 7/10balticportersd

Hello WordPress, I am trying you out now.  I haven’t had the time to tweak settings much or customize, but it will get there eventually maybe.

Evil Twin BrewingThe Cowboy – 5.5% ABV

It’s an interesting twist on a pilsner, smoking it.  This beer has a wonderful smooth body, with a complex, layered aftertaste.  Mild bitterness is accompanied by a taste I can describe as sitting beside a campfire on a cool summers eve, the fullmoon high in the sky and your friends surrounding you.  7/10evil_twin_0017_cowboy.jpg

Playing a Game of Catch-up

There may be a couple missing, had some trouble with Tumblr, and haven’t had the time to figure it out.  Welp, I needed to learn a lesson in consolidating my reviews… I wrote one down on a piece of paper and forgot to write the date, another I did a wordcount on in Docs, but didn’t save the rest of it, so I don’t remember the brews name.  We stumble to get back up again and hopefully avoid the same result in the future.

Everything I can find:

Grizzly Paw Brewing Co – (I don’t remember the name) – Strong Beer

A down the street favourite micro-brewery.  Dark and nutty are the first thoughts about this beer.  Any dark ale lover will like this beer.  Wonderfully balanced flavours, sweet and bitter compliment each other.  Their restaurant grills up a mean burger too.  7/10

Paddock Wood  – Marzyana – 9.2%

Wheat coloured beer.  Strong.  Not much else to say, tastes like beer. 2/10

To get the chronology back in order, here’s today’s (English is hard.  was that correct? Here is today’s (possessive)…) entry.

December 14

Saugatuck Brewing Co. – Blueberry Maple Stout – 6.0% ABV

Flavoured beers are not usually my grab, so this is an adventure.  From a fair distance, the blueberry smell is very strong.  A closer sniff brings out the chocolate & coffee notes of the stout.  The taste is dark coffee, slightly sweetened by maple-blueberry syrup.  7/10

December 9

Iron Fist Brewing Co – Spice of Life – 6.5% ABV

An in-bottle conditioned white ale, brewed with spices and bitter orange peel.  Very strong citrus nose and flavour, with spicy aftertones.  Kick your feet up in front of a cozy fire with this brew in hand, and you’ll have a wonderful evening.  7/10

December 8

I’ve been sick for a few days, and I figured strong beer + cold medicine is a bad combination.  As a result, I am a few days behind, and I’m just gonna do one tonight…

Spider Bite Beer CoBoris the Spider – 10% ABV

A Russian Imperial Stout with a strong chocolate nose.  Satisfying stout flavours abound, with lots of chocolate on the tongue.  I think if you’re a stout fan, you’ll enjoy this one. 7/10
